Expanding Stage Presents Shivers!
Expanding Stage + DakotAbilities presents a brand new play, Shivers October 29 & 30 at 1:00 pm at the Longfellow Center in Sioux Falls. These shows are free to attend, but seating is limited so come early!
Black Hills Playhouse
Summer Stock Theatre
Tucked into Custer State Park, the Black Hills Playhouse has staged summer theatre since 1946, when USD’s Dr. Warren M. “Doc” Lee set out to bring professional productions to the Black Hills. Each season, a company of actors, designers, and technicians cast through nationwide auditions live and rehearse in the park, performing Tuesday through Sunday in a 345-seat theatre. Pack a picnic for Hab Hall, grab something from the Snack Bar, and make an evening of it.
Tours
Community Residencies
For more than 25 years, Theatre 605 Tours has brought professional actor/directors into communities across South Dakota and the Midwest. During a week-long performance residency, the team casts 20 to 55 local kids in grades K–12 in a full musical with costumes, lights, set, and sound. At the end of the week, the kids perform the show for their own community.
Jr. Camps
Sleep-Away Youth Camps
Jr. Camps now calls the University of South Dakota campus in Vermillion home, giving students in grades 5–8 and 8–12 one week each summer to live, rehearse, and perform like a working theatre company. In 2027, campers will build the show together from the first read-through to opening night, whether that means learning lines, songs, and choreography or running the technical side of the production. No audition prep is required, and every camper leaves with a role in the show, a group of new friends, and the confidence that comes from creating something from scratch.
Expanding Stage
Inclusive Theatre
Since 2013, Expanding Stage has created theatre in Sioux Falls for performers of all ages and abilities. In partnership with organizations like DakotAbilities, Theatre 605 teaching artists choose and adapt each production to fit its cast, from costumes and props to the set itself. Rehearsals build independence, movement, and communication skills, and each production ends with performances open to the community.
