Expanding Stage

The Expanding Stage program serves as a vibrant platform for inclusivity, empowerment, and remarkable artistic experiences.  Expanding Stage programs focus on independence, joy, movement, and communication skills. Being a part of an ensemble is an empowering experience for the people we serve and the staff who work with them.

Since 2013, Theatre 605 has partnered with various organizations in the Sioux Falls area to create theatre programs that welcome performers of all ages and abilities. Our current partner is DakotAbilities. DakotAbilities recruits participants, provides rehearsal and performance space, and provides staff assistance for rehearsals and performances. DakotAbilities also provides part of the funding needed to pay the creatives who do this work.

T605 raises funds not covered by program fees, chooses the productions, creates marketing materials and playbills for the performance, does research to adapt the productions to specific casts, auditions participants, creates any adaptations that cast members need for costumes and props, creates scenic elements that work in the DakotAbilities space, and works with the DakotAbilities staff to coordinate rehearsals and performances. 

Expanding Stage is specifically designed to offer a space for non-traditional actors and theatre enthusiasts to unite, learn, create, and perform. By emphasizing accessibility and inclusivity, these collaborations cultivate an environment where everyone has the opportunity to shine.
