Ten Years of Magic: Theatre 605 Jr. Camps

Mar 19, 2026 | Jr. Camps

There’s something truly special about a place where young people discover their voices and find their people. For a decade now, Theatre 605 Jr. Camps has been exactly that kind of place for young artists from South Dakota and beyond. This summer, we’re celebrating ten incredible years with some exciting news!

Registration is officially open for 2026 Theatre 605 Jr. Camps! Open to students in grades 5 through 12, our summer camps are set for July 19–25, 2026. Registration closes June 1, so now is the perfect time to secure your spot.

The Magic of a Performing Arts Camp

Imagine a full week where the stage is your classroom and creativity is your curriculum. For the full week of camp, our young artists dive into acting, singing, dance, and technical theatre. Every step of the way is guided by professional instructors who encourage bold artistic choices and genuine confidence within creativity.

Whether a camper dreams of being in the spotlight or feels more at home behind the scenes, there is a place for them in a theatre. By exploring all areas of production, campers gain a deeper appreciation for how every role, from lead performer to lighting technician, comes together to make magic happen.

The week builds toward an end-of-camp showcase, where campers celebrate and share everything they’ve worked toward with family and friends. It’s a highlight of the summer, and a moment campers carry with them long after the final curtain call.

Of course, a classic sleep-away camp is about more than just theatre. Outside activities like swimming and rock wall climbing will round out the week, making for a full, joyful, and memorable experience. Friendships are formed, confidence grows, and young artists leave with skills and stories that, from experience, we know last a lifetime.

If your camper is feeling nervous, it’s a great time to remind them that no audition is required to attend, and every camper will have a role in the showcase. These camps are open to all, with a proud commitment to fostering an inclusive, welcoming environment where every young person feels safe, respected, and celebrated.

What Is Changing for Our 10th Anniversary?

This milestone summer brings a big and exciting change: Theatre 605 Jr. Camps are moving to a new home on the University of South Dakota campus in Vermillion, South Dakota. Campers will be housed in air-conditioned residence halls on USD’s campus, with meals provided throughout the week at the Muenster University Center.

This move has been thoughtfully planned with our campers in mind. At USD, campers will rehearse and perform in a professional theatre facility. The kind of real performing arts venue that gives young artists an authentic, immersive experience of what it truly means to work in theatre. Campers will also benefit from expanded learning opportunities through a partnership with USD Theatre faculty, bringing even more expertise and inspiration into the room.

We believe youth need exposure to performing arts venues as they explore their craft. This new chapter reflects our continued commitment to giving young artists the very best environment in which to grow.

In 2025, Theatre 605 Jr. Camps welcomed more than 100 campers from communities all across South Dakota. This is a testament to how deeply this program has taken root in the hearts of young performers and theatre enthusiasts statewide. We can’t wait to see what this next chapter brings.
