EDU PROGRAM ASSOCIATE

Year-Round Full-Time Position

The Edu Program Associate is responsible for implementing the logistics and training of the Tours program, including acting as the tour show director and creating educational curriculum for workshops. The role also involves planning, networking with local and national theater artists for hire, and documenting and evaluating programs with the education team. This position will provide on-site support when needed (for example, illness of tour actor/director, extra support needed for a client, or on-site training).

The Edu Program Associate will work with Jr. Camps and Expanding Stage as assigned and available. Tour Actor/Directors

Contract Positions

Tour Actors/Directors occupy a special role in the theater world; they serve as magical ambassadors of storytelling, igniting the spark of creativity that leads to endless possibilities.

Theatre 605 is on the lookout for dynamic Tour Teams to join our 2026 children’s theatre tours.

We are dedicated to bringing theatre education to the heart of South Dakota and its neighboring states, focusing on enriching the lives of children and communities through the arts.

Position Overview

As a Tour Actor/Director, you’ll lead week-long performance residencies, involving 20-55 students (grades K-12) in a musical production. The role combines creative directing with performance and logistical management. This position requires not only acting talent but also:

  • Adaptability
  • Teamwork
  • A sense of adventure

Tour Teams often perform in a variety of venues, ranging from historic theaters to modern spaces, each presenting its own challenges and rewards. They must maintain high energy levels and deliver consistent, engaging performances while managing the demands of travel and diverse schedules.

Actor/Director Responsibilities

Casting/Rehearsal/Performances:

  • Organize auditions and select 20-55 local students (grades K-12)
  • Teach and rehearse scenes (approximately 20 hours per week)
  • Perform stage roles alongside students
  • The acting roles for the Tour Team are determined based on the best fit for each role. Both tracks are of similar size.

Collaboration:

  • Modify shows for various venues
  • Coordinate equipment load-in/load-out with the tour partner and local coordinators
  • Create unique experiences with both students and the tour partner
  • Ensure artistic quality and consistency

Hybrid Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with tour partners, office staff, and location coordinators to create an unforgettable theatre experience for everyone involved
  • Handle tour business such as expense reports, contact calls, evaluations, etc.
  • Tackle unexpected challenges during tours using creative problem-solving skills
  • Maintain health and energy through proper rest, nutrition, and exercise
  • Represent Theatre 605 within communities

Contract Details

Current Contract Dates:

  • Jan 22 – May 24, 2026
  • Feb 19 – May 6, 2026
  • May 14 – Aug 9, 2026
  • Jul 30 – Nov 25, 2026

Compensation:

  • $600 per week
  • Housing is provided during tours or at the Sioux Falls location

Additional Information: Theatre 605 provides a tour vehicle and all necessary equipment for the productions. This role requires a pre-employment background check and a valid driver’s license.
