Theatre 605 is bustling with energy as our busiest time of the year is right around the corner. Season 80 is nearly here! This season, we have four amazing shows in store, adding up to a whopping 53 chances to see a production at the Black Hills Playhouse this summer.

Tatanka Teaser Cabaret Season Warmer
Join us Saturday, May 30, at 2:00 pm for the Tatanka Teaser Cabaret Season Warmer! This special performance features our Season 80 company, performing pieces they auditioned with. Get a glimpse of the inspiring pieces that helped them stand out among the thousands of auditions we saw this year.

Pay-What-You-Can Performances sponsored by Julie Oswald!
It is our mission at the Black Hills Playhouse to bring the magic of theatre to as many people as possible, and we believe money should never be a barrier to the arts. Join us each Saturday before the opener of each of our four productions for a Pay-What-You-Can performance, sponsored by Julie Oswald! There is a suggested $10 donation for those who can, and any and all donations are welcome.
General Admission, no reserved seats.

Opening Matinees Followed by Artist Opening Reception
Our opening matinees are full of energy and excitement! They also include an Artist Reception after each opening performance, where we celebrate the cast and crew. Join us for an exciting show, and stay after to say hello (and grab an autograph while you’re at it).
Plus, our season opener is set to be EXTRA special! Join us on Sunday, June 9, for the very first show of the season! Come early and enjoy a Champagne toast at 1:40 pm, sponsored by the Custer Wolf, plus the first meet & greet of the season after the show.

USD Day at the Black Hills Playhouse | A celebration of USD Fine Arts and USD Alumni Social
USD Foundation & Alumni Association, in conjunction with the Black Hills Playhouse, presents USD Day at the Black Hills Playhouse – A celebration of USD Fine Arts and USD Alumni Social.
Taking place on Sunday, June 28, at the Black Hills Playhouse. Enjoy a performance of 1776, a special lunch, and a gathering with fellow Yotes and fans of the fine arts!
USD Day Festivities include:
- Noon – Lunch and socializing at Hab Hall
- 12:30 p.m. – Enjoy a patriotic pre-show performance featuring Bruce Kelley, dean of the College of Fine Arts, and his daughter, Rebecca.
- 12:45 p.m. – A short program begins featuring Dean Kelley and Danielle Waldner, director of development for the College of Fine Arts.
- The curtain rises on 1776 at 2 p.m. The show’s run time is 2 hours and 30 minutes.
- Meet & Greet with the cast and crew of 1776 after the performance
We have a block of seats reserve for USD Alums. A limited number of highly-discounted $30 adult and $18 youth tickets are available through June 14.

The Black Hills Playhouse is proud to partner with Lifescape, Inspire Education, and the Autism Society of the Black Hills to bring a special sensory-friendly performance of the musical, 1776, to audiences on June 30.

Storybook Island Theater Day Camp
Theatre 605 Tours is proud to return to Storybook Island in Rapid City for a second year to host Theater Day Camp! Fun fact. Storybook Island was our first workshop residency of the original play, Space Pirates. We’re so excited to bring back the completed play to share with such a fantastic group of kids. This two-week-long day camp is a perfect introduction to all things theatre, complete with a full performance at the end of camp.
2026 Storybook Island Theater Day Camp takes place:
- Camp runs Monday – Friday, from 10:00 am – Noon, June 29 – July 11
- Performances take place July 11 at 2:00 pm & 5:00 pm. Each show is 45 minutes long.
- Registration deadline is June 23, 2026

Theatre 605 Jr. Camps 10 Year Anniversary
This year is a milestone year for Theatre 605 Jr. Camps! It’s been ten years since our very first camp, and what an amazing decade it has been. This milestone summer brings a big and exciting change: Theatre 605 Jr. Camps are moving to a new home on the University of South Dakota campus in Vermillion, South Dakota. 2026 Theatre 605 Jr. Camps take place:
- Both camps, for grades 5-12, take place July 19–25, 2026.
- Registration for camps closes June 1, 2026.
